Don’t just eat organic – wear it!

The Hadrian’s Wall Farmers’ Market at Greenhead is branching out: it is already known for excellent local organic food (including beef, lamb, mutton, pork, cheese and vegetables) – now, available at the market for the first time this Sunday (13th) they’ll have organic sheep’s wool from Willowford organic farm in Gilsland.

It has been tested by another stall holder – Anne Burns – whose woollen knits are popular with customers at the market. She says

“The new wool knits up very well and is lovely and soft after washing but it must be hand washed.”

Wendy Bond, the market manager who is expecting over 20 stalls at the market this weekend says:

“Find the Willowford wool at the Birdoswald Cheese stall run by a fellow organic farmer from Gilsland, Dianne Horn”

Meanwhile in the south of the region: Saltburn Farmers’ Market is back after a well-earned winter break with its first market of the year on Saturday (12th)

Saltburn market organiser, Lorna Jackson, is really excited about the new produce:

“Especially for the spring market will be delicious Yorkshire Rhubarb and Pointy Head Cabbages from Henry (nr Scarborough). And for meat lovers we have a new game dealer bringing a wonderful selection of free range sausages of various flavours, pork from "Anna's Happy Trotters", wild rabbits, local venison steaks, a variety of smoked meats and sausages – with much more game promised as it comes in season”

There are also farmers markets on this weekend at Hartlepool and Hexham on Saturday (12th), and Sedgefield of Sunday (13th).
