Special guests this month include Yorkshire Chillies returning with some of the world’s hottest chillies, Garth Cottage Nursery with of fresh summer herbs and, with the sunny spring, Henry already has strawberries from the Vale of York ready to bring to market. Market organiser Lorna Jackson said:

“We’ve had a great start to the year, with our first two markets being as busy as ever. And now we have some special early summer season treats to look forward to.”

Further up the coast, Newbiggin-by-the-Sea farmers’ market returns on Saturday 14th May as a regular monthly market after pilot markets last summer and Christmas. Newbiggin Town Council has snapped up Robert Hindhaugh – formerly Market Manager at Morpeth – to run the market for them. Robert says:

“I can promise at least fourteen stalls at this first market of the season – with more to come as we move into the summer. And Newbiggin is a great place for a family day out.”

Also on Sat 14th, there’s another coastal farmers’ market at Hartlepool

Meanwhile - further inland, at Hexham, Peter Samsom is expecting 25 producers at Saturday's (14th) market, including Yellowfields and Chainbridge Honey Farm. Katrina Palmer, from Bluebell Organics will be there since the sunny weather has brought her veg on a treat! In additions, there’ll be guest producers Northumberland Poultry and Loopy Lisa Fudge. Transition Tynedale will hold its annual seedling and seed swap - and if the weather is ok, there’ll be a set from 'Down in the Attic', one of the youth folk bands based at the local High School

Later in the month, on Sat 28th May – Lorna Jackson is taking her ‘Saltburn magic’ to Stockton, with the first Stockton farmers’ market of the season.

And on Sun 29th May, the ‘Mixer Market’ returns to the Jesmond Legion – less than a minute’s walk from Jesmond Metro - in Newcastle. Though not formally a farmers’ market, Jo Hodson, the market manager describes it as:

“A fabulous mix of thirty stalls from farm fresh local foods to beautiful handmade and retro goodies outdoors or indoors (depending on the weather!)
